Good and bad, a real mix Went for a birthday celebration meal with family and friends. Looked welcoming from outside. Good car parking availability. Arrived to be told our booking was for 8 people, not the 7 of us that had turned up. Well, we booked for 7 people, there was never going to be 8 of us so that was their error and what difference did it make really, certainly no need for the fuss they made of it. If we had booked for fewer people than had turned up then yes it might've been a problem but one less person, not an issue at all surely? No idea why they decided to much such a fuss about it. Not a great start. Dining room looked nice. Less than half the tables were taken on this Friday evening in late October so there wasnt a lot of atmosphere to the place. Menu - good, interesting options alongside classics. Reasonably priced. One waitress was lovely, the other very dour. Food was excellent in regard to mains but desserts were very lack lustre. The cold, dry brownies were a mistake. Would we return? Possibly in the summer as the views from the beer garden looked great and we could see it being a great place for an outdoor light lunch or early evening pizza but not a place we would recommend hand on heart which is a shame.

Glorious food at a reasonable price. Out to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant had run out of beef by the time we arrived but compensated with more than adequate lamb chops which were delicious alongside the ample greens, carrots and cauliflowers cheese, not to mention fluffy roasties and Yorkshire puddings. The desert was a superb brownie with ice cream and caramel sauce. Couldn’t fault the food and the prices were reasonable. Service was attentive and the young ladies always checked we were well watered. Thoroughly recommended.

Generous portions of tasty food Enjoyed a lovely lunch here this summer - lots of outside space for al fresco eating. The food was grand and served hot and fresh

Service and food great! Visited tonight on a whim as we don't get out much and happened to finish early at our hospitality jobs. Booked a table and arrived early but were seated right away. Service polite and prompt, great sized portions and tasty food! We both had burgers which were cooked beautifully and the side of Mac & cheese was very good. Too full for puddings sadly. Reasonably priced and would definitely return 😋

Excellent food and service We stayed over the B/H weekend. The food was lovely, the service was excellent and friendly. The views from the pub are amazing in this lovely part of Dorset. The accomodation at the pub was also excellent. All round I would recommend this to anyone wanting a top quality English pub experience.

Sunday Lunch My family had Sunday lunch at Winyards Gap today, and unfortunately have to say that we will not be returning again. The menu was very limited with only roast beef or pork and a couple of other options, the specials were mostly fish. We ordered four roast lunches. I received two pieces of pork on my plate, one of which was mostly fat. The roast potatoes were inedible, not crispy as expected but rubbery, almost impossible to cut, tasteless, and of a very peculiar consistency. The Yorkshire puds were soft and hard to cut and the vegetables were average with the thicker parts of the greenery stems uncooked, there were not enough for four people so we did ask for some more. The meal had the feeling of having being microwaved/re heated and not freshly cooked. Two of my family ordered scallops with bacon and salad. They paid £12 for the smaller meal, however all they received were three scallops with a few green leaves. This was less than a starter portion and certainly not a main meal for that amount of money. The other two meals were spiced cherry tomatoes and basil linguini. These meals were actually very tasty. I can recommend if you go there to try it …. You won’t get much of it, but it is nice. The water we asked for arrived as we were finishing our meal and my dad twice asked for another drink but never received one.We turned down dessert as at £7 each having experienced the main courses we were very reluctant to experience anything else they had to offer. We have eaten there a few times before and have mostly had excellent meals. My brother and his family are visiting from Canada and we had booked Sunday lunch at Winyards Gap as a favourite place, but no more! Overall, a VERY unpleasant experience.

View to die for Visited today; lunched in the garden enjoying the magnificent view. Decent food. Lovely venue. The only slightly disappointing thing was the lack of warmth from the staff. But perhaps am asking for too much on a hot day?
